Thurrock RFC will be launching a new academy this summer. The academy will strive to develop the potential of current players, with the ultimate goal of having a home grown 1st XV within 6 years.
Thurrock RFC Director of Rugby, Martin Jones has appointed Academy Manager David Harries and Assistant Felix Leonard-Fox to deliver an all-round package which will work with players, coaches, parents and schools. The vision comprises of 5 aspects:
1: To lead a system which retains players at the club to play for the senior teams
2: To manage the safe transition phase of academy and into senior rugby
3: To develop the standard of junior rugby through increasing coaching knowledge and players skills
4: To provide a package of continuous structured feedback for players, coaches and parents
5: To develop individual’s values across the game and in everyday life
All boys and girls from the youth teams will be eligible to start training in the monthly academy sessions during the summer trial periods before a selection for each age group will be made for September
Thurrock RFC Director of Rugby Martin Jones commented "the academy will enable the club to take a lead in player and coach development with the partnership with South West Essex Community Education Trust deliver an outstanding programme to promote social, emotional and mental health through the medium of Rugby for the Thurrock Community".
At the Academy Launch, Paul Lovewell from the Saracens/Essex PDG ran a CPD session for all youth coaches on RAMP with the focus on Activate and injury prevention.
